The Met Gala which was previously known as the Costume Institute Gala was first held in 1948.  Since 1995, it has been chaired by current editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour. Beyond celebrating the relationship between fashion and art, its primary purpose is to serve as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City where the event is held yearly.
