Janet Jackson last week released a new music video. It is her first song in 3 years.
The video featured heavily prints. The vibrant and muti-patterned prints usually associated with African culture and fashion covered walls throughout the video and were used in the costumes worn by Janet. The song, entitled “Made For Now”, was done in collaboration with Daddy Yankee and in further nod to African culture incorporated aspects of afrobeats.
The video was filmed in Brooklyn, New York. The concept is that of a street party that moves across various neighborhoods eventually ending up indoors in an aprartment and then a rooftop.
According to Rolling Stones, the dance crew for the video featured an international ensemble. Dancers were recruited from such countries as Ghana, Nigeria, Trinidad, Granada, and the US
The video release was followed by a live performance on the Jimmy Fallon Show. There she also continued on the theme of prints with the stage decorated with various print cloth and her dancers outfitted in print fabric.
What do you think of the video and live performance? Did the prints play well in the video and performance?
