Queen Bey was spotted this weekend during the festivities of the Grammy Awards in New York in 3 different outfit.
Beyoncé is known as much for her style and what she dons as she is for her music and her ability to entertain. One might even say that the two- her style and her music- go hand in hand with each reinforcing the other.
So for the weekend of the Grammys, we expected no less than to see Beyoncé in some spectacular outfits.
However, her choice of wardrobe stood out this time not because she featured 3 different outfit in 2 days or because each was increasingly dramatic and more awe inspiring than the one that preceded it, but because there was a subtle or not so subtle message behind the outfits she wore.
According to Vogue, the look she wore to the Grammy Awards was inspired by the Black Panther movement. The outfit was designed by Nicolas Jebran, a designer that Beyonce has previously worked with. Jebran in discussing his inspiration for the look said, “the idea was to create a moment, a memorable design with a meaning because it’s more than just a gown.” For him, the Black Panther movement because of Beyonce’s previous reference to it in her work was the derivation point for his design.
Given that, the other two looks worn by Beyonce over the weekend fit that trend. The second look which Beyonce wore was a custom gown from Lebanon based Azzi and Costa. Also a black full length look, Beyoncé accessorized it with a black beret. The choice of head gear was clearly once again a nod to the Black Panther movement. During her Halftime performance at the Super Bowl in 2016, she similarly wore a beret as part of an ensemble and performance she acknowledged was inspired by the Black Panthers.
The 3rd look, which was the first of the weekend, worn to the Roc Nation brunch hosted by Beyonce and Jay-Z, was a custom gown from Ralph and Russo. This look was of a similar spirit as the other two, While Beyonce did not include head gear for this outfit , the the others two, however, it was dark colored (black-blue in this case), floor length, long sleeved and with a cinched waist.
