2018 marked the 90th year of celebration of the Oscars.

This year’s show, which lasted over two and a half hours, was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel who revealed that the first edition of the Oscars had lasted a total of 15 minutes.

In its 90th iteration, the Oscars this year held some memorable and milestone moments. We share these with you below:

1- Mary J. Blige became the first person to ever be nominated for Best Original Song and an acting role (Best Supporting Actress) for the same film. She is also the first woman to get more than one nomination in the same award year. While she did not take away the golden statue for either category, she performed the song for which she earned a nomination, “Mighty River”, at the ceremony. Listen to the song below.

 

 

 

 

 

2- Kobe Bryant won an Oscar. He won the Oscar in the category of Best Animated Short for his role as executive producer of Dear Basketball.  The animated piece traces his path to success as a basketball player and is based on a poem he wrote for the “Players’ Tribune.”  Watch a trailer of the film below.

3- Rita Moreno, who won Best supporting Actress in 1962 for her part in West Side Story, wore the same dress to the ceremony that she did when she won the award. She presented the award for Best Foreign Language Film at the ceremony this year.

 

4- Jordan Peele of Get Out became the first black director to win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
