“Remembering The War That Divided Nigeria”

The Nigerian- Biafran War began officially on July 6th, 1967 when the Nigerian Army marched into the eastern part of Nigeria to retake the region called Biafra. Biafra that had officially succeeded from the country just 5 weeks before.

However, before then a series of actions had unfolded which few may have been able to predict would lead to the war.

Follow us here over as we recount the events that precipitated what would be Nigeria’s only war internally and one that would pit neighbor against neighbor in cities across the country, leaving an estimated 3 million dead at its end.
